Artistic Development

Jacqueline ZHU has been passionate about painting since her childhood. Born in 1975 into a family of scholars in Ningbo, a famous city in southern China, she learned calligraphy from a very young age under her family’s influence and developed a deep love for reading and writing. She holds a Master’s degree in Oil Painting from the China Academy of Art. In 2000, she held a solo exhibition in Hangzhou, a renowned cultural city in China, where she demonstrated her extraordinary creative talent. In 2001, she received the honorary title of “Outstanding Contemporary Artist” in Hong Kong. That same year, she held a solo exhibition in her hometown. For many years, she has created artworks and participated in various large-scale art exhibitions. She has been teaching painting at an art academy for over ten years. She has also traveled worldwide, holding solo exhibitions and participating in art fairs in numerous countries, including France, the United States, Germany, Italy, Russia, South Korea, China, among others. Her works are collected by various foundations, galleries, and private collectors.

Her Life and Exhibitions

She appreciates silence and solitude and enjoys reflection. As a teenager, she wrote a novel that demonstrated her literary talent. Later, she devoted herself to the study of existential philosophy in her spare time. She published her philosophical book When an Individual Faces God in France. Subsequently, she continued her philosophical writing in France in different languages, such as English and French. If painting is her passion, then philosophical writing becomes her vital need, and her belief in God is her spiritual anchor. She moved to Paris in 2019 due to her love for French culture and art. She has participated continuously in the Art Capital exhibition at the Grand Palais in Paris, the Salon d’Automne in Paris, and the Art Shopping exhibition at the Carrousel du Louvre for many years. She has also taken part in numerous major international art fairs in New York, USA, and in several cities across Russia. Owing to her family heritage, she loves Chinese calligraphy. She participated in international calligraphy exhibitions at the Macao Museum of Art in China. In painting, she has published an important collection of her works, Viewing and Thoughts, among others.

Artistic Thought

The work of Zhu Linjing draws from a tripartite existence: the sensible, the rational, and the divine. Throughout her career, she has remained faithful to her unique visual language, pursuing her artistic practice—the dream of her individual existence—with extraordinary tenacity for decades. Strengthened by her years of philosophical reflection and writing, she cherishes oil painting as much as life itself. Through oil painting, she expresses her exploration of self and her perception of the world. Demonstrating a self-effacing humility, she often prays while painting, aspiring to convey in her work the love and light that, in her belief, emanate from God to the world and humanity. Mastering various oil painting techniques, she possesses a particular talent for rendering rich color. Her creative source is inexhaustible, precisely because she has found herself in the state of pure being—in existence, in painting, in the work, and in life. She has never ceased to paint the essence of her own being, with each body of work representing a distinct phase of her life. At times, she is moved to tears during the act of creation, overwhelmed with gratitude for the beauty of life and for her ability to express her thoughts through the medium of oil painting, in which she excels. She dedicates all her passion to creation, whether through painting or philosophical writing. Moving forward with courage and unwavering determination, her creative life will forever illuminate her path.
